Introduction to Information Literacy and Research Methods

Have you always wanted to know how to carry out better searches and find the most appropriate resources? Are you confused about the different research methods? What does it mean to be information literate?

The Association of College & Research Libraries defines information literacy as “the set of integrated abilities encompassing the reflective discovery of information, the understanding of how information is produced and valued, and the use of information in creating new knowledge and participating ethically in communities of learning" (Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education). In other words, you are able to determine what information will be needed and have the ability to locate, access, evaluate, use and communicate information effectively and responsibly.

The 77 bite-sized videos that make up the two courses will allow you to quickly grasp concepts such as primary versus secondary sources, scholarly versus popular publications, quantitative versus qualitative research and how to select appropriate data collection tools, to better equip you to tackle your next assignment or research project with confidence.
