Welcome to the SUSS community! We look forward to being a part of your learning journey.

On 12 January SUSS Library staff welcomed a new cohort of part-time students who stopped by our information booth to learn about accessing library resources and services.

Starting university can be exhilarating but using the library for the first time can cause anxiety because of all the unknowns: “How will I find scholarly resources for my assignments?” Who do I ask if I have a question?" “Where do I even begin the research process?” According to an article Do You Suffer From Library Anxiety?, students who find their own library skills inadequate often fear that seeking help would only reveal their inadequacy, but having a positive library experience can significantly bring their anxiety levels down.

The one-day orientation provided us with opportunities to interact with the newest members of the community and give them a positive experience by showing the friendly faces behind the “virtual walls” of the digital library. We answered many questions they had about digital and physical learning spaces on campus to help smooth their transition to university and prepare them for the challenges of academics before classes started.

A continuous flow of enthusiastic students – keeners! – stopped by the Library booth during the New Student Orientation on 12 January to learn about the resources and services that SUSS Library offers.

Picking up fill-in-the-blanks postcards and sharpies, students doodled their take on what books meant to them and what and why they read.
