Instructional Session: Locating Academic Resources for Your Research

by Marion Ngo on 2021-01-18T10:47:00+08:00 | 0 Comments

On the evening of 13 January, we had an hour-long instructional session with Graduate Students (namely, from Masters of Social Science and PhD), where they discovered the following:

  • How to conduct a literature review process and research
  • Resources available from our Digital Library (DL)
  • Resources beyond what SUSS Library has to offer, (e.g. searching for articles, publications via Research Gate, Google Scholar)

We also received some questions, such as:

Q: “Usually I have a problem shifting from Google scholar to SUSS Library. I normally find an article through Google scholar, cut out the entire article title, paste on to the library search title, but cannot find the same article in SUSS library. Is it because Google scholar and SUSS library have different database?”

and

Q: "Which APA edition should we use?"

Long answer short: you can sync your Google Scholar with SUSS Library (learn how in this FAQ); you'll have to check with your lecturer on which version they would prefer.

Interested to find out more, or have the library conduct instructional sessions for your class? Email us at ask@suss.libanswers.com. We'd also be happy to cover other topics, ranging from searching for and accessing resources, conducting a literature review, and even going through proper citation techniques.
